Nathan Associates and Gnarus Advisors LLC combined their litigation practices so law firms, corporations, and other clients could find a diverse and nimble pool of preeminent economic experts under one roof. The newest Who’s Who Legal, a U.K.-published directory, underscores the power of this combination.

Who’s Who Legal listed Stephen E. Sellick and Jessica B. Horewitz, Ph.D., of Gnarus, among the top 10 thought leaders this year for their expertise in insurance and reinsurance. Jincy Elizabeth Francis and Nandita Jain of Nathan’s Chennai, India, office rank among future leaders in the economics of competition. Ram Tamara, Ph.D., a longtime Nathan executive and mentor to Francis and Jain, appears among the listed experts in competition.

Nathan, a premier provider of world-class economic and analytic solutions, acquired Gnarus in May. The acquisition adds the company’s deep expertise in environmental advisory and litigation, insurance coverage and claims analysis, and product liability and mass torts to Nathan’s portfolio of experts in antitrust, intellectual property, and employment.

Insurance and Reinsurance

Sellick, who founded Gnarus in 2007, is Nathan’s senior vice president for litigation services. With 25 years of experience, he is known for complex quantitative analysis in litigation and public policy and is entrusted by clients to provide counsel, analysis, and expert testimony on a wide variety of subjects including insurance allocation, mass torts, and product liability claims.

Dr. Horewitz, with over 20 years of consulting experience in the litigation environment, uses analytical and statistical tools to assist clients with a variety of economic and econometric analyses in different arenas. Her insurance work includes assessing liability for asbestos and other products for such purposes as financial reporting, risk analysis, and potential acquisitions.

Future Leaders

Francis, a senior economist at Nathan, specializes in research and quantitative analysis. She has assessed levels of competition and potential benefits of competition reform, especially in the civil aviation sector, and has conducted antitrust research for projects in the European Union and United States. She has prepared expert reports for India’s antitrust regulator, the Competition Commission of India (CCI), and represented clients before the CCI.

Jain, a managing associate at Nathan, specializes in applying qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques to competition analysis and impact assessments. Her litigation work includes projects for top law firms submitting to the CCI, covering automobiles, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, retail, and other sectors. She designed the survey methodology for examining India’s legal services sector in a project for the British High Commission.

Ram Tamara

Dr. Tamara, a Nathan vice president based in Arlington, specializes in competition law and economic impact assessments across all sectors. He has assessed the impact on competition and consumer welfare of mergers and acquisitions, cartels, abuse of dominance, and other anticompetitive practices. He was instrumental in establishing Nathan’s India operations, and his work in regulatory analysis has contributed to significant changes in India’s business environment.
