The APEC Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activity is among APEC’s latest efforts to advance women’s economic empowerment throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Prepared by USAID’s US-APEC Technical Assistance to Advance Regional Integration (US-ATAARI) activity, this report sets forth an analytical framework for strengthening conditions for women in the STEM professions. The framework draws on experiences from APEC’s 21 economies, organizing challenges across the key issues of (1) Enabling Environment; (2) Education; (3) Employment; and (4) Entrepreneurship. Each section provides a set of potential interventions that economies, employers, educators and others may consider when undertaking changes and reforms. This report culminates in a set of recommendations for strengthening APEC-wide conditions for women in STEM. The report was produced by Nathan Associates Inc. for the United States Agency for International Development.
