ARLINGTON, August 13 – On August 12, 2020, the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) Fund announced $122 million in progress and partnerships under the initiative. Launched in February 2019, the White House-led Women’s Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) Initiative is the first-ever whole-of-government effort to advance global women’s economic empowerment. One of the newly announced partnerships is the Women Entrepreneurs Amplifying Ventures and Economics (WEAVE) in Vietnam and Indonesia program, which aims to support and empower 15,000 women entrepreneurs running small and growing businesses in those two countries.

WEAVE will comprise three phases of a “learning journey” for women entrepreneurs. The first phase is the HerVenture mobile learning app that facilitates business skills building in marketing, finance, and operations. The second phase is Road to Growth, an individualized online learning program to develop the business management and investment readiness skills of select women entrepreneurs. The third phase is the Mentoring Women in Business Program, which pairs women with business mentors and facilitates networking.

WEAVE will be delivered under Nathan’s ASEAN-USAID Inclusive Growth in ASEAN through Innovation, Trade, and E-Commerce (ASEAN-USAID IGNITE) program by the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women (CBFW) and local implementing partners.  Funding for this activity comes from USAID’s W-GDP Initiative and Qualcomm Wireless Reach. WEAVE builds on tools developed by CBFW in partnership with ExxonMobil Foundation. ASEAN-USAID IGNITE is a five-year program supporting the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). ASEAN-USAID IGNITE promotes a well-integrated and inclusive ASEAN Economic Community by strengthening the enabling environment for cross-border trade.
