Bill Hanbury, President and CEO of the United Way of the National Capital Area, cited Nathan Associates, ”stellar campaign” in the organization’s e-newsletter for January:

Nathan Associates, an Arlington based company, conducted a stellar campaign which consisted of many great events. In addition to a food drive, a used book sale, and a silent auction – they hosted a Pledge Rally day. Nathan Associates continued their tradition of giving to UWNCA with a sizable corporate gift and a supportive employee campaign.

Nathan Associates has supported the United Way for 32 years. Organized and led by Nora Derrick, this year’s campaign exceeded its fundraising target for the year and set a record for contributions.

A team of 10 staff kicked off the campaign with a day of volunteering at Food for Others, sorting and shelving donated food, packing emergency boxes of food for local residents, and sorting and packing USDA-provided food for those in need. Nathanites contributed 197 pounds of food and took these donations as well as direct monetary contributions to Food for Others.

Other events included a haunted happy hour, raffles, a football pool, potluck lunches, a used book sale, on-site professional massages, a ”cake walk,” bake sales, an Indian food festival, and a very competitive silent auction of everything from Cambodian bags to a day sailing on the Chesapeake. The Nathan mug sale, a first-ever event, was a real crowd pleaser and was second only to the silent auction in attracting contributions.

Nathan Associates looks forward to next year’s United Way campaign.
