Through this TCB project, Nathan improved the capacity of small and medium Panamanian firms to export goods and services. Target sectors included processed agricultural products, IT, and artisan goods. In the first phase of the project, we analyzed and reported on market opportunities in the shrimp, dairy product, teak product, and e-tourism sectors. We also reported on issues that affect competitiveness in these sectors, specifically food safety standards and regulation, as well as the relationship between research institutions and businesses.
In the second phase, which began in November 2006, we started specific export promotion work with artisan groups and small and medium sized agriculture and IT companies.
