2015 NORTHEASTERN CASINO GAMING UPDate Released

\r\n\r\n

March 6, 2015?Indian gaming in Connecticut has borne the\r\nbrunt of gaming expansion in the Northeast in recent years, says Dr. Clyde Barrow,\r\nauthor of the 11th edition of the Northeastern Casino Gaming Update and Academic\r\nAffiliate of Nathan Associates. The\r\nincrease in competition and the lingering impact of the Great Recession have\r\nled to a 39% decline in gaming revenue and a 37% reduction in employees at\r\nConnecticut Indian gaming facilities since their aggregate peaks in 2006.

\r\n\r\n

While the expansion of gaming in the Northeast has been extensive,\r\nthe opening and expansion of commercial casinos and racetrack casinos (racinos)\r\nin New York, Pennsylvania, Maine, and Rhode Island have had the greatest\r\nnegative impact on Indian gaming in Connecticut. And the negative impact is likely to be magnified\r\nin the next several years as new casinos open in Massachusetts and\r\nNew York, and one racino in Rhode Island adds a hotel.

The 2015 edition of the Northeastern Casino Gaming Update includes\r\nnew patron origin and financial data for the gaming facilities in Connecticut, Rhode\r\nIsland, and Maine. The study also\r\nprovides an overview of trends in the Northeastern casino gaming industry,\r\nwhich continues to influence gaming policy and patron behavior in the New\r\nEngland region.
