Dorothy Tembo, Nathan Associates’ Trade Adviser for the Zambia Trade and Investment Enhancement (ZAMTIE) project, was appointed Zambia’s official Chief Trade Negotiator in the summer of 2004. Since then, Ms. Tembo has established a Department of Foreign Trade in the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry and the ministry has been more effective in a number of bilateral and regional trade negotiations. These include negotiations with Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Common Market of Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and the WTO—as well as preparations for pending negotiations for an Economic Partnership Agreement with the EU.
