ARLINGTON, July 1 – Nathan is excited to announce it is expanding its work in digital connectivity with the award of the USAID $33.4 million Better Access and Connectivity (BEACON) Activity. A partnership with USAID/Philippines, BEACON builds on Nathan’s long history of working in the Philippines and Southeast Asia and demonstrates Nathan and USAID’s expanding commitment to the growth of the digital economy. The BEACON Activity will begin at an important moment both in the Philippines and globally. The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the need to fast-track the expansion of digital infrastructure and broadband connectivity. With communities and industries in extended lockdown, there is increased reliance on online services, with internet access now considered indispensable.

A five-year program based in Manila, the project includes a focus on: (1) Improving the quality of ICT and logistics infrastructure; (2) Strengthening the regulatory and business and innovation environment; and (2) Strengthening the cybersecurity environment through expanding the number of cybersecurity professionals, and building awareness across cybersecurity standards and application.

Nathan’s Vice President for Economic Engagement and Private Sector Development, Ann Katsiak said “We are thrilled to be back in the Philippines working with USAID on issues critical to the region’s broader economic growth and resilience. The rapidly evolving digital economy presents a unique opportunity for the Philippines to leapfrog and capitalize on its innovation across emerging digital areas.”

Sue Chodakewitz, Nathan’s President and CEO said, “This is an incredibly exciting win for Nathan, representing our quickly expanding work across the digital ecosystem in the region and globally and building on our deep work both within digital economy as well as telecommunications and infrastructure development.”
