Nathan’s Morocco New Business Opportunities (NBO) was formally launched June 27, 2006 by USAID and Morocco’s Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Economic Upgrading (MICMAN). A four year project, NBO is expected to create as many as 10,000 jobs and as much as $175 million in export income.
To help Moroccan firms take advantage of opportunities arising from the Morocco-US Free Trade Agreement, NBO will build the capacity of firms to penetrate the U.S. market and develop and sustain long-term commercial partnerships with U.S. companies; support industry associations in promoting Moroccan industry among U.S. counterparts at trade shows and in U.S. media outlets; and organize trade missions to Morocco for US buyers and investors.
José Gonçalves, Chief of Party, and Michael Blakeley, Director of Enterprise Assistance, presented the program at MICMAN headquarters. The opening event was presided over by Minister Salaheddine Mezouar. Others attending included US Ambassador Thomas Riley and USAID Mission Director, Monica Stein-Olson, and members of the NBO Strategic Orientation committee. That committee includes representatives from Morocco’s Directorate for Foreign Investment, National Agency of Small and Medium Enterprises, the Moroccan Center for Export Promotion, the Association of Exporters, textile business associations, the leather industry, and automotive producers.
