March 9, 2012-On February 23, 2012, Alan P. Meister, Ph.D., a Principal Economist at Nathan Associates, presented at the American Bar Association’s 16th Annual National Institute on the Gaming Law Minefield in Las Vegas. Dr. Meister presented the latest facts and figures on Indian gaming, comparisons to other segments of the gaming industry, a historical analysis, reasons for Indian gaming’s slowdown over the past few years and its recovery in 2010, and a discussion of the potential economic, legal, and regulatory challenges facing Indian gaming in the future. This was the seventh consecutive year that Dr. Meister has presented at the Gaming Law Minefield conference.

Over the past decade, Dr. Meister has conducted extensive research and analysis of the gaming industry, including Indian gaming, commercial casinos, racinos, card rooms, and online gaming. His work has included industry and market analyses, economic and fiscal impact studies, assessments of regulatory policies, analyses of Tribal-State gaming compacts and revenue sharing, feasibility studies, surveys, and economic analysis and expert testimony in litigation and regulatory matters.

Dr. Meister has also conducted years of independent, scholarly research on the gaming industry and authored a number of publications, most notably his annual study, the Indian Gaming Industry Report . His gaming work is relied on by the industry, governments, and investors, and has been relied on before the United States Supreme Court and the World Trade Organization. In addition, he has been commissioned by the National Indian Gaming Commission to independently analyze the economic effects of proposed regulatory changes.
