Bruce Bolnick, Chi Leng, and David Merrill of Nathan Associates were recognized by Vernon Jordan, President of the Economic Club of Washington D.C., for advising the club and the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area on the award of two doctoral fellowships and the new Philip M. Dearborn fellowship.

Dr. Bolnick and Dr. Leng pored over numerous submissions from doctoral students at Washington D.C. area universities, analyzing and evaluating research on economics, finance, international trade, and business. The fellowships, each $10,000 for the 2007-2008 year, will support independent research as well as research directly relevant to the metropolitan area.

A development economist with more than 30 years of experience as a professor, technical adviser, and international consultant, Dr. Bolnick is Nathan Associates’ Chief Economist. He has taught economics at the University of Nairobi, Duke University, the University of North Carolina, Northeastern University, Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and Brandeis, and has published dozens of professional papers and three books, including the Student Study Guide and the Instructors Manual for The Economics of Development by Gillis, Perkins, Roemer, Snodgrass, and Radelet.

Dr. Leng, a Managing Economist with Nathan Associates’ Litigation practice, specializes in applied microeconomics, econometrics, class action antitrust matters, and damage analysis. Before joining the firm she worked at the National Institute of Standards and Technology developing protocols to cost-effectively protect constructed facilities from disaster risks and promoting new residential construction technologies.

Mr. Merrill, a senior vice president at Nathan and member of the Economic Club, recruited the reviewers, organized the review schedule, chaired the review committee, and resolved review issues as well issues regarding submission nominations.
