Under a contract with USTDA and Brazil’s Transport and Public Works Secretariat, Nathan Associates helped develop a strategic plan for the next phase of the PROAERO airport expansion, covering capital expenditures, equipment procurement specifications, and financing options.
We provided expert technical assistance to identify the potential for private sector participation, base the plan on national, ICAO, FAA, and other industry standards, and determine future infrastructure and facility needs.
We also reviewed compatibility with local environmental regulations and the requirements of lending agencies such as the World Bank, the IFC, and the IDB. The expansion plan resulted in clear objectives, not only for infrastructure and airport upgrades, but also for management, operations, maintenance, and economic development of the state’s airports.
The recommended plan promoted a self-sustainable and efficient airport system supported through local airport management, private sector participation, airport planning and development, local land use control, and associated economic development.
