Darrell Freund, since 1991, has dedicated his career to putting countries on the path to sustained growth through sound economic and fiscal policies, good governance, and institutional reforms. He specializes in assuring proper management of public finances, improving the performance and accountability of the public sector, identifying and implementing reforms, and improving service delivery.
Mr. Freund has implemented technical assistance in 16 countries for the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Germany’s international development agency (GIZ), the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID), and the World Bank. As part of USAID’s Leadership in Public Financial Management (LPFM II) project, he leads teams that are helping the Ugandan Ministry of Health introduce program-based budgeting and the Malawian government right-size government institutions.
Before joining Nathan, Mr. Freund spent a decade at PDP Australia Pty Ltd., a Sydney-based consulting firm. He previously worked for the audit, tax, and advisory firm KPMG and the New York City Council’s Finance Division. He has also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Republic of Congo.
