Nathan assessed the impact of a water and sanitation program run by Friends of Women’s World Banking (FWWB), an organization in India that provides financial and training services to organizations promoting self-reliance among poor women. The program provided loans to women to build personal sanitation facilities for their families.

To measure the impact of the program, we conducted structured interviews of individuals and groups in two cities, gathering data on household demographics, access to sanitation, quality and cost of sanitation infrastructure, socioeconomic and behavioral impact, women’s safety and empowerment, health and disease, environmental impact, and perceptions of the program.
