Job Description:

The aim of this project is to support ongoing reforms with key government, private, and civil society actors in Sri Lanka to institutionalize and foster the common understanding of economic governance and trade liberalization.

These positions will report to the Chief of Party and to the Nathan home office Project Director.

The Trade Policy Specialist will serve in a leadership role, working closely with the Chief of Party and the personnel team to ensure smooth, effective implementation of project activities. H/She will have a broad background with a combination of SME development, trade promotion, tariff reform and/or transport logistics. The Trade Policy Specialist will provide gender-informed technical assistance to strengthen and streamline trade policies and the administration of those policies to increase private sector access to markets. Ultimately the strengthened trade policies will lead to the removal of bottlenecks for international trade.

  • Advanced degree in a relevant subject Trade Policy, Finance, Business, Economics, etc., Ph.D. in Economics, preferred.
  • At least 10-15 years (mid-level) or 15-20 years (senior level) of experience working in trade policy issues including both bi-lateral trade and multilateral trade issues.
  • Demonstrated expertise in implementing trade policy and economic experience to address “at the border” challenges
  • Experience serving as a technical advisor to governments; and
  • Fluency in English and Sinhalese.
