The Inter-American Investment Corporation (“IIC”) and Bancolombia (together, the “Banks”) are considering providing financing through a corporate loan to Compañía de Puertos Asociados S.A (“COMPAS”) to modernize and expand the multipurpose terminal in Cartagena and to expand the terminal in Tolú. The loan is anticipated to also cover minimal investments in the Barranquilla terminal. As such, the IIC retained Nathan to provide a due diligence analysis of COMPAS and give recommendations to the banks on their anticipated corporate loan.
Nathan held meetings with COMPAS and the Cartagena container terminal operator to better understand i) the project specifications for the expected modernization and expansion of Cartagena and Tolú; ii) the historical and projected financial health of the company; iii) any market considerations relevant to COMPAS and their operations; and iv) technical design and operating parameters.
Nathan conducted an engineering and construction review, operational and maintenance review, financial model verification, competitor analysis, tariff structure review, demand projection by cargo type, and financial sensitivity analysis in order to advise the banks on the viability of the investment.
