USAID Burma Private Sector Development Activity (PSDA)

Nathan Associates provides support to the Private Sector Development Activity (PSDA) in Burma, a USAID-funded project to support the Burmese people and government and implement economic reforms that generate inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

The Activity, a five-year, $23.3 million project, is implemented by Nathan Associates in partnership with subcontractors, J.E. Austin Associates and Internews. We began on July 1, 2015 and will run through June 30, 2020. The Activity includes a $4 million small grants fund for nongovernment organizations to build capacity and to stimulate inclusive policy dialogue.

The Activity provides responsive, tailored support to a wide range of civil-society and private-sector groups throughout the country as well as to Union and subnational governments, parliaments, and courts. Through the use of technical assistance, training, multi-stakeholder dialogue, and grants, the Activity works in key policy reform areas to achieve the following results:

  • Building an Effective Policy Foundation for an Inclusive Market Economy through transparent, participatory, and evidence-based policy dialogue and reform processes;
  • Enabling  Entrepreneurship through improved policy and capabilities, including for women- and ethnic-owned businesses;
  • Expanding Access to Finance and Mobilization of Savings through policy reform and capacity building in banking, microfinance, insurance and other nonbank financial sectors.
