For the Ministry of Textiles, India, Nathan India and the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) conducted a study to compare the performance of the Indian textile and apparel industry to that of its competitors since the end of the Multi Fiber Agreement era. We conducted field surveys and interviewed major stakeholders in the industry, using data so gathered along with secondary data to develop a value-chain sourcing model. Our study helped the ministry understand the supply and demand sides of the textile value chain, the competitiveness of specific textile and clothing products exported from India, and impediments to value chain efficiency.
