Findings from the annual Indian gaming study authored by Principal Economist Alan Meister were recently cited in a Wall Street Journal article regarding a controversial casino development by a Native American tribe in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The article also discussed the poverty of the Tribe and its desire to operate the casino in order to provide for the general welfare of its tribal members. Data from Dr. Meister’s annual study, the Indian Gaming Industry Report, were used to illustrate the overall success of Indian gaming in Oklahoma in recent years.
