Involved in international development since 2005, Ms. Akalin specializes in development economics and policy. Since joining the firm she has managed and supported five USAID projects and three World Bank projects, honing her technical skills in economic impact evaluation, economic analysis of trade policy, trade forecasting, agricultural trade policy, and food security. She has worked on projects in Southeast and Central Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Ms. Akalin also has experience with regional integration, having assessed the business enabling environment for agricultural trade in ASEAN in 2012 and having managed a customs modernization project in Kazakhstan. Ms. Akalin has formal training and experience in applying the HRV Growth Diagnostics framework, as well as training in general equilibrium modeling using GTAP. She has conducted cost-benefit analysis, monetized policy outcomes, and assessed rates of return for infrastructure projects and other investments.
Before joining Nathan in 2009, Ms. Akalin was engaged in diplomatic work and research and development financing at the United Nations.
