Wolfgang Tolle is an international business executive, consultant, and technology entrepreneur accomplished in fields as diverse as digital media and medical devices.

He is chief executive officer of VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies, the developer, maker, and marketer of an implantable miniature telescope to treat the most advanced stage of age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of permanently impaired close-up and reading vision in people 65 and older.

Mr. Tolle previously was CEO of WaveLight Inc. and then WaveLight AG (later GmbH), a publicly traded German producer of medical lasers for eye treatment, when U.S.-based Alcon Inc. bought the company in 2007. As Alcon’s general manager for Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, he guided the integration of Alcon Benelux into Novartis AG, the Swiss multinational that finished its $50 billion acquisition of Alcon in 2011.

Mr. Tolle has also been a leading entrepreneur and business consultant in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, where he moved from his native Germany in 1990. As president and CEO of the Virginia Center for Innovative Technology and in subsequent entrepreneurial positions, he helped drive Northern Virginia’s transformation into a center of information technology. He most recently served as president and chief operating officer of PostCreator, an area venture in the social media and branding space.

LaunchDreams LLC, the Northern Virginia firm that Mr. Tolle directed from November 2001 to July 2006, wrote strategic plans, conducted due diligence, and advised international companies on entering the U.S. market. Throughout his career as entrepreneur, executive, and consultant, Mr. Tolle gained significant knowledge of financing from venture capital and other sources.
