As resident adviser in Myanmar under the ACTI Project, Steve Parker will be assisting the government in implementing its Framework for Economic and Social Reform. Previously, he was Chief of Party for the LUNA-Lao project (Laos-United States International and ASEAN Integration) in Ventiane. That project provides demand-driven technical assistance to support the Lao PDR in making legal reforms and building institutional capacity to implement the U.S.-Lao PDR trade agreement, accede to the WTO, and meet obligations in the ASEAN Economic Community. In February 2013, Mr. Parker discussed the signficance of the project with the Center for Strategic  and International Studies.

Earlier, Mr. Parker was a senior trade economist working on such projects as USAID’s STAR-Vietnam Project in Hanoi, where he supported Vietnam’s implementation of the U.S.-Vietnam trade agreement and its accession to the WTO. He has worked as a senior research fellow at the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo, chief economist for The Asia Foundation in San Francisco, trade and macroeconomist for USAID’s mission in Jakarta and as resident trade advisor for the Harvard Institute for International Development, also in Jakarta. Mr. Parker was the lead trade and development economist for the U.S. Congressional Budget Office and he began his career as an international economist at the U.S. Department of Labor.
